Why Steel, Iron Are Key to National Development

In the past, we were told that the lack of iron and steel manufacturing technical know-how and the size of the market as reflected in our per capita consumption of 3.5 to 7.5 kg of steel did not favour the establishment of an iron and steel industry as the economy of scale supported such an industry.
