Deutsche Telekom gets new CEO -- T-Mobile's rising star

Filed under: Cellular, Business Deutsche Telekom, the Germany-based telecom giant, has rid itself of its current CEO -- Kai Uwe Ricke -- and has recruited the head of T-Mobile (DT's largest division) into the role of Deutsche Telekom CEO. Rene Obermann, who is credited with running T-Mobile USA among other T-Mobile properties, will become DT's new CEO, replacing Ricke. Ricke and his executives have been harshly criticized for not doing enough to bolster DT stock in an age when nimbler competitors are taking its customers by the bucketload. Obermann's past successes basically gave him the top job, but the turnaround of DT will be harder than being chief of a wireless division, albeit a huge one.
