Stephen Fesik, self-described geek, may just stop cancer
9th Dec 2005, 20:40 GMT
Stephen Fesik is not a doctor. But it is increasingly looking like he may be The One, just like Neo in The Matrix. His goal? To get cancer cells to kill themselves. Apparently, other cells in our body just do us a favor and jump ship, kill themselves right away when they become damaged. Cancer cells? Not so much. The warped little cells just start reproducing and spreading like crazy. So, what Fesik is doing is attempting to re-attach a missing protein to cancer cells so that they will function properly... and commit suicide. It doesn't seem to come as much of a surprise to Fesik's bosses that he is the one who is pioneering this research. Sometimes you need someone with an outside perspective to see the forest for the trees. You can read more about this here. Read Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
