AMD to Release Quad-Core K8L Chip in Q1, 2007
28th Mar 2006, 20:19 GMT
Not to be outdone, AMD responds to Intel's development of a quad-core processor with one of its own, an upgrade to its K8 architecture that the company is calling K8L. Sources say the AMD part will be shipped about the same time as the quad-core Intel Kentsfield chip, in the first quarter of 2007. This sets up a battle royale for next year, pitting the two 64-bit chips against each other in the arena of Microsoft's 64-bit Vista operating system. Too bad Macs can't use AMD chips. Or can they?
