Scientists have witnessed the death of a star for the first time. The supernova was spotted by an international team of astronomers using NASA's Swift satellite as well as telescopes in orbit and on Earth. Swift spotted a massive explosion -- known as a gamma-ray burst -- 440 million light years away. Most last only a fraction of a second but this one went on for 40 minutes. That let scientists watch for the moment the star went supernova -- blowing itself to smithereens. TechNewsWorld Spotlight on Security Now Available. Register here and receive your copy today!
