New breast cancer drug prevents future cancer growth

Filed under: Breast Cancer, Drug, Prevention New evidence is showing that women who discontinue the use of Tamoxifen, a mainstay of breast cancer treatment, are taking a positive step in their cancer treatments. In the drug's place a new prescription of aromatase inhibitors is encouraged. These newer drugs prevent estrogen, the hormone that helps tumors to grow in post menopausal women, from being produced. "This is the first time survival advantage has been shown," said Dr. Walter Jonat of the University of Kiel in Germany. This is indeed exciting news for breast cancer patients.
