BlackBerry Enterprise Server security vulnerability reported

Filed under: Security, BlackBerry Enterprise Server According to SecurityTracker.com, a vulnerability has been reported in the Blackberry Attachment Service on the Blackberry Enterprise Server. A remote user can cause denial of service conditions. "A remote user can create a specially crafted Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) file that, when viewed by the target user on a Blackberry device, will trigger a heap overflow on the Blackberry Attachment Service and cuase the service to crash," the vulnerability reads. "The Attachment Service will restart immediately or after a period of time. "As a result, " SecurityTracker warns, "a user may not be able to view attachments. No other Blackberry services are affected." "It can be possible to cause arbitrary code to be executed," SecurityTracker reports, but RIM has not confirmed code execution at the time of the report.
