The mother in Trafalgar Square is riding herd on four eight-year-old girls, all blond, all rich with good health. She is pointing to a crimson-haired, nose-ringed figure who is indeed in a wheelchair and is dealing calmly with several microphones thrust in her face: Alison Lapper.
