Vodafone posts $9.7 billion loss on German, Italian write-downs

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Vodafone Group Plc, the world's largest mobile-phone operator by sales, on Tuesday posted a first-half net loss of 5.1 billion pounds ($9.7 billion) after it wrote down the value of its German and Italian operations.
