Partners. Just in time. Until yesterday, Australia's opening partnerships between Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden averaged a meagre 31.62 this summer. Their failure to fire was one reason why England had a real chance to take the Ashes. Yesterday, their opening stand of 185 meant that normal service had been resumed, and England's hopes were suddenly much diminished.
