Oracle to buy rival Siebel in $5.85 bln deal

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Oracle Corp., prowling for takeovers in a consolidating software market, on Monday said it will buy rival Siebel Systems Inc. in a deal that values Siebel at $5.85 billion (3.2 billion pounds) and gives Oracle an enviable position in one of the maturing industry's few robust niches.
