Rechargeable battery draws juice from USB ports

14th Nov 2006, 08:09 GMT

Remember the last time you saw a fantastic product that made you think, “Damn — why didn’t I think of that?” We do — it was about an hour ago and the product in question is the USBCELL, a rechargeable AA battery that draws its power from a PC’s USB port. The battery is the brainchild of London-based Moixa Energy and it has already won awards for innovation. The idea is incredibly simple — just flip the cap to expose the USB jack and plug it into a free port. Charging takes about five hours and the USBCELL is rated at 1,300mAH, which is comparable to most other rechargeables. The NiMH battery comes in packs of two for $24, which is pricey, but don’t forget there’s no need to buy a wall-socket charger and these look way cooler than your typical Eveready. (Via USBCELL)
