Study: Tea may reduce ovarian cancer risk
15th Dec 2005, 02:21 GMT
Filed under: Teas, Science The antioxidants contained in green and black teas have long been thought to have cancer-fighting properties, and now a study by researchers in Sweden suggests that tea drinking may play a role in the prevention of ovarian cancer. The study, recently published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, examined the tea-drinking habits of over 60,000 women, ages 40 to 76, over a 15-year period and found that those drinking two or more cups of tea per day were 46 percent less likely to develop ovarian cancer than non-tea-drinkers. CBS health correspondent Dr. Emily Senay points out that the study does not specify which types of teas the women drank, although a majority did report drinking black tea at least once a month.
