(AP) - Dominican-born Haitian rights activist Sonia Pierre poses for a photo in her parents house at the Batey Lecheria some 25 miles (40 km) north of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006. As a 13-year-old activist, Pierre was arrested and threatened with deportation from the Dominican Republic for leading her fellow neighbors of Haitian descent in a march for cane-cutters' rights. Now, 30 years later, she has become the public face of a beleaguered minority in the Caribbean nation. Pierre has angered Dominican authorities but won support abroad: She will be honored Friday with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award at a ceremony in Washington. (AP Photo/Ramon Espinosa)
