Filed under: Cellular, Applications, Business Boost Mobile , a MVNO owned by Sprint Nextel, says it will begin offering the Loopt buddy-tracking technology that allows users to know where their family and friends are at virtually any time. According to Loopt, their system is a cocktail of social networking and location-based services, so users will be able to share their real-time location status, messages, pictures, and other information with their buddies directly from their cellphones. In addition, alerts can be sent to notify other users when they are near. Boost Mobile is now offering Loopt, but you can bet other providers will be jumping into the fray if this becomes successful. Social networking has become much more prevalent in our society, and doing it through your cellphone seems like a natural fit. In addition, this system, as well as similar products, are being touted as useful for parents to keep tabs on their kids, which isn't such a bad thing.
