TV networks and Internet companies, beware. The fast-growing online video distribution market is attracting a disparate crowd of competitors, from blue-chip corporations to budding start-ups. One lesser known yet rising player is BroadBand Tower Inc., a Tokyo information technology venture. While its main line of business is maintenance of Internet servers, President Hiroki Owada is well acquainted with filmmaking. In summer 2003, online entrepreneur Takafumi Horie asked Owada to help his company, then known as Edge Co., to deliver film over the Internet. Owada agreed to join forces with Horie.
