Cancer encompasses much more than just treatment

Currently there are over 10 million cancer survivors in the United States. Some of those are still in treatment, while many are considered to be cured of the disease. However regardless of their statuses, these individuals share similar needs in dealing with past, present and future cancer issues. According to Dr. Sheldon Greenfield, director of the Center for Health Policy Research at the University of California, Irvine, "Successful cancer care doesn't end when patients walk out the door after completion of their initial treatments." A cancer "survivorship care plan" is needed for these patients, whether it is formulated by the patient or somebody close to them. This plan helps the patients with issues such as employment and insurance issues related to the medical histories or when to worry if worrisome symptoms again surface.
