Suit settled in Fla. missing boaters case

20th Oct 2005, 18:37 GMT

NAPLES, Fla. - The mother of a boy lost at sea with his father two years ago has settled her lawsuit against the estate of the boat's owner for $300,000. Neil Alan Eddleman, 13, and his father, Neil Wayne Eddleman, 48, are presumed dead since disappearing after leaving the Naples area on a Gulf of Mexico fishing trip on Oct. 17, 2003. The body of the boat's owner, Gary Lee Lisk, 61, was found nearly a month later, when the boat washed ashore at Cape Canaveral, on the state's Atlantic coast. Officials believe currents pushed the boat there. Karen Eddleman, the boy's mother and ex-wife of Neil Wayne Eddleman, filed a lawsuit in January for damages against Lisk's estate. Circuit Judge Hugh D. Hayes approved the settlement Wednesday. Lisk's estate left behind a life insurance policy of $300,000, but few other assets, attorneys said. The estates of the father and son will each receive $100,000, said attorney David Garber, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Karen Eddleman. Who gets the remaining $100,000 will be decided later by arbitration, Garber said.
