Verizon FiOS under test and under-priced?

Filed under: Broadcast TV, Cable TV, Industry, News, Programming Verizon is testing its FiOS DTV offering in the Texas area and apparently somebody got a look at what Verizon plans to charge. According to the rate card, a 180 digital channel package will cost $39.95 per month, which is much lower than most comparable cable packages. Similar to cable and satellite TV providers, Verizon plans to charge monthly equipment fees. A standard set-top box will run $3.95 a month, while an HD-capable box will cost $9.95 per month. Offsetting the lower package costs are higher priced premium packages but these are inconsistent. 14 HBO channels will add $14.95 to the monthly bill; however, an assorted package of 26 different premium movie channels is only $11.95. Sadly, there isn't any info on high-definition programming or prices just yet. We'll keep watching for those and to see if Verizon will continue to undercut their competition.
