Large drug sweep under way in N. Brevard
4th Oct 2005, 13:00 GMT
Several law enforcement departments today are sweeping through northern Brevard County in a crackdown on cocaine trafficking, officials said. Agents are rounding up at least 17 people on drug warrants in the Titusville area, according to Titusville police spokesman Warren Van Vuren. The sweep - which includes federal charges - is a combined operation of the Titusville and Cocoa police, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Van Vuren said the Melbourne and Palm Bay police departments and the FDLE are assisting in the arrests. "These are high-level drug dealers involved in large quantities of cocaine and firearms," Van Vuren said. The operation is the result of an eight-month investigation and was helped by a $100,000 state grant through FDLE, Van Vuren said. "The Titusville police department hosts a post for DEA in our building and it definitely helped in the federal coordination of this operation," Van Vuren said.
