Syria's about face leaves Siniora with some explaining to do

In what looked like a sudden about-face, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa announced on Monday that Syria and Lebanon "have embarked upon a new phase in our relations." Sharaa told the world that "we want to open a new page," adding that Syria "wants to see security and stability in Lebanon." The most cynical among the Lebanese are likely to be amused by the juxtaposition of Sharaa's statements:
