An Extra Two Cents A Day To Fund Wisconsin's Wireless 911 Initiative

So what's an extra 83 cents a month if it goes toward the possibility of one day helping you in an emergency? The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has given it's blessing to a new surcharge of 83 cents on cellphone users' monthly bills for the next two+ years to help cover over half of the $104 million that has been designated to purchase technology to better pinpoint wireless 911 calls. Although wireless 911 at this point is not capable of delivering the exact location from a caller in an emergency like "regular" landline 911 calls can, it is able to provide the caller's locations within 30 to 40 meters of where the call was placed. So far, there hasn't been much grumbling about the surcharge, which certainly is a good thing. Eighty-three cents a month works out to a little over two cents a day, and people should be less concerned about putting their two cents in arguing over this surcharge and be thankful the state is taking this necessary step.
