(Reuters) - An artist's concept of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft highlights the spacecraft's radar capability in this undated publicity photograph. The Shallow Radar (SHARAD) instrument is the long pole-like feature that extends horizontally from the spacecraft. The radar is pictured 'beaming' down under the surface of Mars. The foreground of the image is a cross section of the planet, showing the crust, the layers below and, ultimately, reservoirs of ice or liquid water. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter successfully fired six engines for about 20 seconds November 18, 2005 to adjust its flight path in advance of its March 10, 2006, arrival at the red planet.
