I don't suppose anybody still thinks that the increasingly violent protests by extremist Islamists against the entire Western world are about cartoons.The placards and the chants long ago moved on from the debate over freedom of speech. Now they are more basic: Death to Denmark. Death to Israel. To hell with Freedom of Speech. Behead the editors. Jihad, jihad, jihad. One telling placard carried at a demonstration in London read: ''Damn your liberty.'' A protester at a London rally on the weekend was dressed as a suicide bomber; one of the speakers praised the recent subway bombings there (and was not arrested).
