Mobile TV: The Next "Killer App"?
9th Sep 2005, 19:56 GMT
A new report indicates that mobile TV can potentially become the next “killer app” in the wireless industry. The report, ”Mobile TV: Switching On the Revenue Stream,” indicates that through recent trials and research, wireless providers say that their end users are positive about the possibility of having mobile TV as a service option. It certainly has caught on in Europe, with Orange France and Vodafone Germany portrayed as “standout examples” of mobile TV services. The study does make a point that pricing will be a major selling point—users are looking to pay less than $10 a month for mobile TV. It’ll be interesting to see if the big players will be able to provide mobile TV at that price point without having to develop “tiered” services where you get the most basic service at under $10 a month, but you’ll have to pay more to get a greater selection of content.
