U.S. Schools Attracting Growing Number of Non-U.S. Students

The number of non-U.S. students enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions during the 2005-2006 academic year remained within a fraction of a percent of the previous year's totals, at 564,766, but new enrollments rose sharply, according to the Institute of International Education's 2006 report on international education exchange. "We are increasing the number of scholarship programs," says Miller Crouch, the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary for educational and cultural affairs at a briefing on the report, Open Doors 2006. “We are continuing to make improvements in visa processing,” he said.
