Nigeria: The Cora Revolution (2)

The centrality of the book or its place to the development of human civilization cannot be denied. The computer revolution may be raging yet but we must draw its line where the book is to be found. This should explain why the book would assume such prominence in the activities that unfolded on the National Museum grounds during the last Lagos Book and Arts Festival. A session in this year's festival, a great improvement on previous editions, had in attendance Pat Utomi, professor and faculty member of the Lagos Business School and, of late, presidential aspirant. Pat Utomi spoke on the topic: The Book in My Life. There can be no doubt that what he had to say went a long way to change the thinking and orientation of the people who gathered to hear him. The benefits of a talk like this are unquantifiable given the fact that the majority of his audience were children, many of whom have long consigned the book to the backyard of their daily existence where television and the computer now rule.
