Nice

Okay, if you read one more story about Borat or see one more interview with Sacha Baron Cohen, his creation risks becoming cinema's biggest pop-cultural annoyance since Jar Jar Binks. But the numbers above are plain staggering. On just 18 screens — less than half the exposure of the other contenders — the friendly foreigner crushed the competition. Locally the film pulled in $98,000 per screen; that's twice what Superman Returns did in its opening week, and more than the No. 10 film did last week in the entire GTA. But while he has clearly conquered the local market (suddenly making Leafs winger Nik Antropov our second favourite Kazakh), Russia will be a harder nut to crack, since the movie was banned there last week to quash its scheduled Nov. 30 premiere. Kazakhstan conquering the world? Not quite yet.
