Cancer expectations scare Brits, low on resources

British health care professionals are already panicking about projected numbers of cancer patients in the next 20 years. Cancer rates are expected to rise 28%, which will require significant resources including both money, drugs, and expensive in-patient treatments. The Cancer Capacity Coalition is concerned that hospitals are encouraging patients to select unnecessarily expensive treatments in order to meet the mounting costs of cancer treatment. Advocacy groups suggest that less expensive forms of oral, outpatient treatments could be substituted for intravenous, chemo therapies, and are concerned that some cancer patients will not be elegible for treatment based on rising costs. The coalition is encouraging policies that will anticipate the rising number of cancer patients to ensure that people will be treated equally, and that patients will not be turned away.
