Breastfeeding quirks: Which breast is "The Champ?"

6th Nov 2005, 20:09 GMT

My 14-month-old self-weaned about a week ago, and as I type this, I have a warm heating pad wrapped around my right breast. It is still feeling engorged and I can feel that my milk ducts are screaming, “Hey! What’s going on here?!” My right breast—aka “The Champ”—has always been my top producer. My babes were happiest nursing on the right side. I could pump more out of the my right than my left. My right breast always let me know when it was time to nurse by leaking milk whenever my babies cried. So I am not surpised that “The Champ” is having the hardest time letting go. I’ve taken some Advil and a hot shower. I am gently massaging my tender, painful ducts. But the steady drip-drip of milk reminds me of tears. I know I won’t be the only one to miss nursing my baby.
