Coal-plant pledge fuels angst

It looked for a while yesterday as if Donna Cansfield was waving a white flag in the battle to close Ontario's coal-fired power plants.The Energy Minister was two-thirds of the way through a dreary speech about the swell things her government is doing to encourage energy conservation when she brought up her promise to close the coal plants by early 2009. Ears pricked up all around the room where a government committee had convened to hear the minister. (INSIDER Edition subscribers only)
