OSTEEN, Fla. - A fast chain of accidents killed four motorcyclists early today as they traveled on a rural road on the first day of the Biketoberfest motorcycle festival. Investigators say one motorcycle wiped out after hitting a stray dog on State Road 415 just north of Deltona, causing another motorcyclist to lose control. Another biker and his female passenger stopped to help when two Honda Civics crashed into them. Killed were a 44-year-old man, his 36-year-old wife and the 47-year-old woman who stopped to help. A fourth person later died at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. A fifth was treated and released. The dog also died. Troopers said the cars that hit the motorcycles weren't speeding. "I've been doing this 32 years and it's worse every year," FHP Cpl. Dwight Wiles said this morning while trying to piece together the scene. "I've worked many a homicide on this road." Biketoberfest is a four-day party that brings thousands of motorcyclists to nearby Daytona Beach from around the country.
