Heroes: Seven Minutes to Midnight

Filed under: Drama, Science Fiction, NBC, OpEd, Heroes (S01E08) Mohinder may have "turned his back on his father's work" at least for now, but what I really wish is that he would turn his back on those opening and closing voice-overs. Far too much Mohinder for my taste anyway this episode, even with the vision-quest power he seems to have picked up. Now he's back in India having accomplished nothing in New York, and all of the sudden picked up an ability of his own. Don't we have enough psychic-power types yet? I can't make myself care about one more. Or maybe Mohinder's dead sister is living inside his mind. A so-so episode overall, with a few cool moments. I did think it was kind of fun that the Texas waitress didn't even know she had a power yet: just thinking it kind of curious that her memory lately had been very, very good. "It's kind of a skill, I guess," she says. Yeah, I'd say so. I'm assuming at this point the waitress will be back, or at least will see what lead to that photo on the diner wall with her and Hiro. My favorite part of tonight was Hiro jumping away to try and rescue her, and then ... not returning. Good freak-out expression on Ando face there. I wonder if Ando will try and find the cheerleader on his own, if Hiro stays missing for awhile. For once the Matt Parkman story picks up where it left off previously. He has to deal with the consequences of the punch he threw at the cop who's sleeping with his wife. Hey, at least it is mentioned, before Matt goes in to try and reach out to Radiation Guy. Concentrating more time on just a segment of the cast made the episode drag for me. I missed that kooky Petrelli clan, and now I wonder if Nathan's deception about the painting Peter wanted him to get is going to amount to anything, since Sylar's attack on Clair is supposed to happen the night following this episode. Felt like they were marking time before next week's big answer to what "save the cheerleader, save the world" means. I"m guessing it means that if Sylar kills Claire he can absorb her power and then be unbreakable, but I dunno. We found out some other stuff: Matt has a theory that his power was implanted during a two-day black out, and that others may have had the same treatment. And I have to give them props for letting Horn-Rim Glasses come across with the details. He explains a lot. becoming more conflicted, and understandable in the process, although he's as ruthless as ever when it comes to Claire's safety. One thing though, he mentions that he and Mrs. HRG had been having trouble trying to conceive a child on their own when he rescued Claire as a baby. Either that changed, or Claire's little brother is adopted too. Maybe that kid has some powers as well. I would say unequivocally no, however it seems the producers are not shy about introducing previously undisclosed powers, and even brand-new superheroes , at this late date: Micah's powers were introduced last week; and now we have Total Recall Waitress and Whispering Eden, this week. Eden might have used her magic whisper on Mohinder way back in Brooklyn. That could explain why he gave up his hunt for the truth about his father's theories and returned to India suddenly. Yeah, I still don't know what that was all supposed to be about. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
