Scientists open the 1918 Pandora's box for bird flu clues

Scientists at long last have recreated from scratch the 1918 Spanish flu virus that is believed to have taken a toll of 50 million humans worldwide in a first ever case of a historic pandemic virus being reconstructed. But more importantly what made them do it was the need to understand better the bird flu virus that now threatens to unleash another similar pandemic.
