Bloc Party Cancels U.S. Tour

14th Nov 2006, 14:17 GMT

There was a little confusion when it was announced that Bloc Party would be supporting Panic! at the Disco on their latest U.S. tour -- for no reason, it seems. The British post-punk band has announced they are cancelling the remainder of their U.S. gigs due to an injury suffered by drummer Matt Tong. Fan site Blog Party has news that Tong injured himself before their set at the Hifi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta on November 10. The injury resulted in Tong having collapsed, but he managed to play through the set, and was only taken to the hospital after the gig. A press release from the band states "while Matt is on the road to recovery, doctors have advised that he not travel or play again for another few weeks in order to give his lung time to properly heal." As a result, the entire U.S. leg of their tour has been cancelled, with no news about whether their U.K. leg will suffer the same fate. "We would like to apologize to all of our fans here who won't be able to see us on this tour," vocalist Kele Okereke said. Considering the tour is so close to the release of their second album, A Weekend in the City, the cancellation is a potential blow to their publicity for the album. The band's U.K. tour begins at the end of January 2007, with their anticipated second album to hit store shelves on February 5, 2007 in the U.K., and February 6 in the U.S. Uni student, aspiring film editor, and blogger at Music Times
