With rise in ovarian and breast cancers, family history decisive for performing expensive genetic tests

The new guidelines released by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, being the first to promote genetic testing, suggest that primary care physicians review family history closely to identify those women who may stand to benefit from a preliminary but expensive screening for cancer genes . The detailed guideline is due to be published by the American College of Physicians, in the current week's Annals of Internal Medicine.
