In October, the average selling price (ASP) of mainstream LCD TVs declined 0.5-2.9% and that of LCD monitors dropped to 3.8%, according to research firm WitsView Technology. Compared with LCD TVs, the ASP of PDP (plasma display panel) TVs dropped sharply, from 1.5% to 3.1%. The per-inch price difference between 42-inch LCD TV and the same size PDP TV widened with a faster price decline for PDP TVs. Meanwhile, the price difference between 37-inch LCD TVs and PDP TVs narrowed, as PDP TVs were seeing more price cuts, said the research firm.
