Paul Haggis, the London, Ont.-born screenwriter and director who cut his teeth in series television before taking a risky jump into feature filmmaking six years ago, took home two Academy Awards last night, including the year's most important Oscar, for best picture, for his Los Angeles racial-strife drama Crash.
