British cancer patients do not fully understand their cancer diagnoses

Not only do patients not understand certain terms, such as, "the tumour is progressing," but also, patients do not have enough understanding even to know what questions to ask their doctors. Studies like this may seem to be common sense studies; however, they are necessary in order to demonstrate definitively that physician-patient communication is becoming more important than ever. As a result of the study, British cancer charities are focusing their efforts on creating tools for physicians to use to give patients thorough information about their diagnoses.
