Leafs sign Ponikarovsky to two-year deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to a two-year contract Wednesday. The 25-year-old Ponikarovsky, had six points in 19 games for Voskresensk of the Russian Hockey League last season. In 2003-04 with Toronto, he had a career-high 28 points, including nine goals in 73 games. The native of Ukraine has played 116 career NHL games for Toronto. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. He was a restricted free agent.
