Consumer Reports wages war on extended warranties

In today's L.A. Times story, Spending on product warranties targeted , Alana Semuels writes about a Consumer Reports initiative to dissuade consumers from buying extended warranties, which it says are a waste of money. Yesterday while researching the story on Google, Semuels came across How I got suckered into an extended warranty , my recent blog post documenting my travails, and gave me a ring. A key highlight: "The consumer group says products rarely break within the warranty window, and even when they do, the cost of the repairs is about the same as the cost of the warranty."
