WASHINGTON/BANGKOK - Ever since the scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that they had cracked the genetic code behind the 1918 flu epidemic, America has woken up to the potential damage that another pandemic, the avian influenza can cause. It is an open secret that the US is not prepared to combat a pandemic of such proportions as has been predicted should the H2N1 virus find a way to mutate and easily transfer itself from person-to-person.
