Chien-Ming Wang dazzled on the mound by blanking the Athletics over eight innings, helping the New York Yankees to a 2-0 victory over Oakland in the opener of a three-game series. Wang (3-1) was tremendous for the Yankees, allowing just three hits and two walks while recording 20 of his 24 outs on ground balls. He improved to 2-0 over his last four starts and received plenty of help, as Oakland hit into five double plays.
