A surge in internet-based job advertising has taken the job vacancy rate in the September quarter to a new high of 10.1 percent. The job vacancy rate measures job advertising as a proportion of employment. Internet ads recorded a vacancy rate of 5.5 percent compared with 4.6 percent for newspapers. ANZ economist Steve Edwards says it is the first time internet ads have overtaken traditional newspaper-based ads.© 2006 Newstalk ZB News
