A "Jellybean"-Inspired Walkman?

I know that it’s still only September, but the holiday gadget gift season is nearly upon us, and PC World is featuring a number of new devices coming out of Japan that could make their way to the U.S. market by Christmas. There was one product that definitely caught my attention and made me think wistfully of my younger days. If you’re like me and wax nostalgic for those old Sony Walkmans that were all the rage in the mid-80s, the company is coming out next month with a line of Walkman digital music players “inspired” by jellybean candy. The players are literally shaped like jellybeans and come in a number of colors. More importantly, they play MP3 and ATRAC3plus files with a battery that lasts 50 hours. A 512MB model will cost $130, and a 1GB model is $180. Will the “Jellybean Walkman” make a dent in the otherwise iPod-dominated MP3 player world? Probably not, but this might turn out to be a decent low-cost alternative for some, although the iPod Nano has already turned many heads.
