Senate okays phasing out analog TV for digital, earmarks US$ 3 billion for transition

A US Senate panel has approved the phasing out of analog television broadcast to usher in the culture of digital TV by April 7, 2009 for making way for wireless telephony, Internet and emergency responder services. The approval follows a vote of 19 to 3 by the Senate Commerce Committee.
