Police: Wife tips off C. Fla. pot farm

13th Nov 2006, 23:16 GMT

A woman who heard strange music at her Pine Hills, Fla., home inadvertently led police to her estranged husband's sophisticated marijuana plant growing operation, according to police. Officers arrested Charles Clayton, 35, after they found nearly 100 marijuana plants being grown inside a home's garage. Clayton's estranged wife told police that she heard strange music and noticed a light coming from the garage and called police, fearing a stranger was inside, FLORIDA TODAY news partner WKMG Local 6 News reported. Officers then found the plants and arrested Clayton. "Investigators said (Clayton's) estranged wife had no idea about that growing operation taking place in her garage," Local 6's Mike Deforest said. "It never ceases to amaze you," an officer at the scene said. "I was somewhat impressed by the sophistication of the operation once we got up and saw what it was about. It is good to get that off the street." Unlike naturally grown marijuana, which has a street value of about $1,000 a pound, the confiscated plants are worth about $1,000 an ounce, Local 6 News reported. "Hydroponically grown marijuana has a much stronger THC concentration," Deforest reported. The total value of the plants seized from the home was as high as $200,000.
