Lycos Cinema: Movies plus chat
14th Nov 2006, 03:48 GMT
Filed under: Trends, Movies, Online Lycos is making the online viewing experience a social event with the launch of Lycos Cinema. Just like being at the movies with your buddies, you can watch and visit with each other in real-time. You can also send out invites and host your own Screening Room, which allows you to pause, rewind and fast-forward video while chatting your friends. Viewers can congregate in virtual lobbies to view available screenings and also chat with other potential screening buddies. (Junior Mints anyone?) Lycos is also targeting indie filmmakers to use this platform as a way to reach and interact with tons of viewers in a way they couldn't with traditional media outlets. Lycos will roll out additional content and features over the next several weeks, including Lycos TV which provides broadcast programming and Lycos Video on Demand which allows viewers to rent or purchase movies. But there is no need to show up unless you're running running IE6 or above and Windows Media Player 10. All content is snuggly wrapped up in Microsoft's DRM technology.
