How to implement a rainbow function?

Hi folks, I have to implement a rainbow function. What I mean is a function that calculates a specific number of colors with a high distance between this colors like excel it do for assigning colors to datarows in a chart. The function should always deliver the colors in the same order. Any ideas about an useful algorithm?
